Crytek is promising a lot next year, with the announcement of Homefront The Revolution. As a follow-up to THQ and Kaos Studios' 2011 FPS, Crytek's Homefront picks up four years after North Korea's successful invasion of the United States. With a focus on the open world and guerilla combat, this is a sequel that's likely to surpass its predecessor.
Taking the publishing helm this time is Deep Silver, the same company behind Dead Island and Saints Row IV. Along with this morning's official reveal, the company also released the first Homefront The Revolution screenshots and a trailer, highlighting the whole revolution aspect. Talk about raging against the machine.
The premise here is fighting against a larger power through guerilla tactics and attrition warfare, so the player must build the resistance member by member, safehouse by safehouse. Crytek is promising a non-linear approach to the story, which takes place in the surburbs of Philadelphia. The urban environment is surprisingly vast, providing a pretty great playground for chasing down objectives and taking on new missions, either solo or with some friends.
Homefront The Revolution will be released in 2015 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Check out our preview in the meantime and expect to hear more about the game at E3 in a couple weeks.
