Despite Tuesday's Uplay troubles keeping many people out of Chicago, Watch Dogs was poised to avoid the common problem of game breaking bugs in new game releases. Unfortunately, all is not well with Chicago. Ubisoft neglected to put Aiden Pearce on the QA team, and a game breaking bug has popped up that affects every system. The issue has been reported on the official Ubisoft forums and currently has over 90 pages of Watch Dogs fans from PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One complaining about the loading screen bug.
The most common variation of this bug happens when players attempt to obtain DLC from the Uplay store and attempt to return to the game. Watch Dogs will load to about the 90% mark and then stop. Future attempts to load that save will also fail, likely due to the save file being corrupted. Some have reported that Watch Dogs will also lock up when installing, preventing them from even playing at all.
Ubisoft UK forum manager Mr_Shade commented on the matter, stating that the reports would be passed on to the Watch Dogs development team. The official status on their known issues post shows that the bug is being investigated. They claim that a workaround is available for the PS4, but the link provided leads to an error.
It's unfortunate, but launch day mishaps and mayhem have become an expected inevitability these days. While waiting for Ubisoft to provide an update and a fix for Watch Dogs' loading screen woes, avoiding DLC from Uplay is likely the best way to avoid becoming a victim.
