Four short videos from the unannounced From Software project tentatively titled Project Beast have been "leaked." I say "leaked" because the four small videos are perfectly packaged to be epic teasers, to build hype, but to in no way taint the obviously forthcoming E3 bombshell announcement. And hyped we shall be, because when you mix Dark Souls with shotguns, whips, and huge boss monsters, I can't help but go weak in the knees.
Rather than upload the ungainly WebM files, a NeoGAF user by the name of libregkd was kind enough to convert the files into .gifs, which can be seen below. These images, low resolution as they are, are just perfectly tuned to build hype. There's a brief combat tease, a shotgun blast, a whip crack, that beautiful white fog clearly taking advantage of that PS4 hardware, and that boss in the distance... oh, that boss in the distance. Finally, the logo shot to close it out. Perfect.
The discussion I've heard going around is whether or not this is a marketing tactic designed to spread hype through core gamers without stirring up business interests too much, or just some brilliant and well-meaning leaker. I don't think it really matters in the end. I doubt Sony would be unhappy with the leaks even if they didn't order them. Gamers get to see just enough to want more, so the inevitable announcement is still certain to blow the house down.
Project Beast will be From Software's next big third-person action game with obvious influence from the Dark Souls franchise. It's rumored to be a PlayStation 4 exclusive, but until the announcement comes out we won't say for sure. Ah, be still my beating heart. I'm too old for this stuff. Expect more information as we get closer to E3.
