Sony's a bit late with their June line-up of PlayStation Plus titles, but now it's clear they were just waiting for Microsoft to reveal their Games With Gold plans before matching them. Yes, that means that Sony will be matching Microsoft's two Xbox One games in June with two PlayStation 4 games of their own, an increase over the single game they've put out for the platform each month since launch. Competition is good. Of course, there are great games lined up for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in June as well.
It doesn't seem like Sony considers June any different than other months, however. Microsoft, perhaps in celebration of either E3 or the jump of Games With Gold to Xbox One, is including a bonus game in their plan and generally more pricey games overall. PS Plus will stick with their typical routine. Indie games on PlayStation 4, a mix of big and small for PlayStation 3, and whatever remaining awesome games on PS Vita that haven't been included with PS Plus yet.
Here are Sony's PlayStation Plus games planned for release in June:
- Trine 2: Complete Story
- Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate
- NBA 2K14
- Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
- Mutant Mudds Deluxe
Another big change will also be starting with PlayStation Plus in July. Rather than having rotating releases that can often be confusing to members, sometimes resulting in players missing the download windows of games they're interested in, all games will become available on the same day. In July all games will open to the public on the first Tuesday of the month and will then stay available for download until the next round of games is made available. It's simple, straight forward, and works best for everybody.
It's great to see Sony continuing to release great games across the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita month after month. Plus, we should all thank Microsoft for finally pushing the PlayStation 4 up to two games a month. Catch every next month with more free games.
For European PS Plus users, the same changes to the program applies. Two PlayStation Plus games a month, but starting in July they'll be updated every first Wednesday of the month -- not Tuesday. The game lineup is a bit different for June too:
- PlayStation 4: Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate and Trine 2: The Complete Story
- PlayStation 3: NBA 2K14 and Lone Survivor Director's Cut
- PS Vita: Dragon's Crown and Surge Deluxe
