Sony has a surprise for PlayStation fans who'd like to get a bit closer to the E3 experience without actually attending. In 40-50 different movie theaters across the United States and Canada, Sony will be broadcasting its "E3 Experience" press conference live. We're talkin' about the full IMAX (likely not in all theaters) experience for the entirety of the press conference, followed by a 30-minute post show with Geoff Keighley in addition to some awesome take-home prizes. Video games.
The best part is that each ticket is 100% free, but obviously only available in limited quantities. Best get off your butt, check the list to see if a theater featuring the show is nearby, and then reserve tickets straight away. The even starts on Monday, June 9 at 6:00PM PDT/9:00PM EDT. Each attendee can grab 1-2 tickets, so make sure to grab one for a friend if you're able to snag a reservation before they're all gone.
In recent years Sony's E3 presentations have been my personal favorite just due to the production values of the event. Lots of lights, music, all sorts of epic game footage and just presenters who are legitimately having fun. That's probably the key part, is the presenters don't sound completely full of crap like at certain other conferences. I think that atmosphere would come across great in a movie theater, especially with IMAX.
The other side of the coin is that of course it's going to be so limited in space that very few folk will be able to fit in. That essentially means that this is less of a really cool thing so much as a big, dumb marketing event that Sony will push as a way they're connecting with fans. Expect to hear way more than anyone would like about the prizes and special treatment attendees will be receiving.
Movie theater event or not, E3 is always an exciting time. If you're interested in attending one of the movie showings of Sony's E3 press conference, check out Sony's post over on the official PlayStation Blog.
