A bit of good news and a bit of bad news for those looking forward to Sacred 3 today. The good news is that the game's release date has been bumped up from late August to August 5. That means ARPG fans will be hacking and slashing almost a month earlier than previously thought. Accompanying the announcement is an all new trailer as well a few screenshots. The bad news is that the previously revealed all new character class, the Malakhim, is apparently now a pre-order exclusive bonus.
Previously I introduced the Malakhim as an exciting new addition to Sacred 3, the only new character class in the game in fact. The revelation that the class is now a preorder exclusive is rather a punch in the gut, considering it may have been what many Sacred fans were looking to the most. What's worse is what the change could imply. If such a marketed, important part of the game is now a pre-order bonus it could mean the game's developers need pre-orders fast.
In fact, the earlier release date could also imply that Keen Games isn't in the best position. Rarely will a developer ever say that their current schedule is just way too much time. Shortening a schedule almost universally means that the developer can't afford the extra development time and that they need their product on shelves, making money as soon as possible. Let's all cross our fingers that Keen Games is able to put a proper amount of polish into Sacred 3 and that the game does well.
Sacred 3 will be released on August 5 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, for better or worse. If it's any respite, today's newly released trailer looks awesome. It showcases the new "Weapon Spirits" feature, weapon augmentations that can take the form of actual characters -- including those from previous Sacred titles. We believe in you, Keen Games! Make Sacred 3 great, but please don't hold the Malakhim hostage.
