Just this past week Sony shared an all new look at The Order: 1886 via livestream, perhaps to measure a general interest in core gamers. The response, positive or negative, may be moot however as today Ready at Dawn has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 exclusive title will be delayed into 2015. Rumors have been swirling for weeks now, even being denied by the high-ups at Ready at Dawn, but the truth prevails inevitably.
As is so common nowadays, Ready at Dawn only vaguely refers to the delays as a delay. What, because pretending the new date was the actual release all along and previous mentioned of an earlier release date were just little white lies is better? Anyway, here's Ready at Dawn Creative Director Ru Weerasuriya's exact words on the matter:
"As we look to bring this experience to the players, we have decided to spend some extra time to deliver on the promise we made when we first introduced the game. As such, you can expect The Order: 1886 to come exclusively to the PlayStation 4 in early 2015."
Unfortunately, with The Order: 1886's delay it leaves the PlayStation 4 with a huge gap in its fall holiday line-up. Sure, the big multi-console releases will be aplenty, but in terms of exclusives Sony's going to have a hard time differentiating itself. That is, it would if it doesn't have something else to fill the gap. Could Sony have an E3 announcement that could sate our worries about the PlayStation 4's holiday this year?
In the mean time, accompanying the delay announcement is an all new trailer from Ready at Dawn. The developer diary-style video focuses on how The Order: 1886 is mixing history with their own kind of fiction to create the world of their game. While technology may be their primary weapon, there's definitely something mystical about the "Blackwater" that prolongs each knight's life.
The Order: 1886 is now scheduled for release in early 2015, rather than its previously announced fall 2014 launch. It remains, naturally, a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
