Valiant Hearts: The Great War isn't just any puzzle game, what with being set during World War I and all. The game follows several heroes and their lives as they struggle to survive and cope, so what's up with the cartoony style? Art Director Paul Tumelaire is mostly responsible for that, as we learn in this new behind-the-scenes trailer.
Tumelaire was working on some concept art when the developers noticed his art. Yes, it had a comic book style to it, but his art maintained an "emotional edge." This gave the Ubisoft Montpellier team an idea to do what no other game had done before: tell a heavy and difficult story in a totally different way.
War War I also happens to be underrepresented in games, so the devs wanted to do something different. Well, I can certainly say they did. Here, see the trailer for yourself, and be sure to check out our hands-on look at the game.
