It's a horror most human being have imagined as a child. To wake up in the middle of the night and thing everything known, everything safe, is gone and nothing but mystery and the unknown remains. I still have those dreams as an adult. Among the Sleep is a game that capitalizes on that nightmare. Players take on the role of a two-year old child in first person, setting out from their bed and falling down the rabbit hole. Krillbite Studio has now confirmed Among the Sleep will launch on May 29.
Beware some light spoilers here, but I just have to chat about this release date announcement trailer. That teddy bear doesn't sit well with me. His focus-less gaze, his unmoving mouth, and those ragged patches. The fact that his opening line is, "Nice to meet you," makes me think that Teddy's closely tied to the events unfolding in Among the Sleep. Or, maybe he's a friend and I'm, reading too far into it. I guess we'll see. He still creeps me out.
For now Among the Sleep will only be released on PC, but Krillbite Studio has announced plans to bring their game to PlayStation 4 as well. The price has yet to be hammered down, though $15 seems like the likely target. Maybe $20? Expect news on that front in the next week. In the mean time, for those unsure about what kind of game Among the Sleep might be, make sure to check out the freely available demo. It's worth it.
