Ugh. This hurts me to say. Interceptor Entertainment has just... dropped a Bombshell. Okay, they actually just dropped a game which happens to be named Bombshell. It's, also not coincidentally, is about a female protagonist named Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison. At least she isn't blonde. The game itself is a top-down shooter where the player will fight an alien menace to... rescue the president. Argh, the pain.
Some folk make cleverly connect the dots and say, "Wait a second, this sounds a lot like Interceptor's other recently announced title Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction. You know, that game that led to a lawsuit between Interceptor, 3D Realms and Gearbox. It appears like all of that has been figured out, at least to some degree, out of the court system. At the least, Interceptor went ahead with development replacing Duke Nukem with Bombshell. One might hazard a guess they never really intended to do the game with Duke Nukem in the first place. Money!
Bombshell's announcement trailer isn't anything spectacular to write home about. It features Shelly (ugh, I just realized that's probably a pun referring to gun shells) sitting, drinking Jack Daniels, watching the President of the United States get kidnapped on television. We get a close up of Bombshell's wicked gun arm, as well as her cleavage. Also the scars between the cleavage and the gun arm.
I won't lie, when I watch the trailer the only thing that pops into my head is Kate Beaton's "Sexism is Over" comic strip. It really speaks for itself. Basically, all evidence points to Bombshell being a troped-up, sexist parody of a strong female character. I'd love to be wrong on this one. Really. Please. The low-cut steel plate shirt and booty shorts aren't making it easy to side with Interceptor.
Bombshell is planned for release in Q1 2015 for the PC and PlayStation 4, published by 3D Realms.
