The Pokemon International Company and Nintendo shocked the Pokemon community today with the announcement of 2014's 3DS Pokemon titles. We're going back to Hoenn, everyone. Introducing Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, "fresh takes" on the hugely popular Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire titles from 2003. Expect the two Pokemon titles to release in November 2014, once again adorned by the duo of Groudon and Kyogre.
Details regarding Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire are in extremely low quantity currently. One would assume the games would take place in the Hoenn region once more, but even that isn't actually confirmed yet. Instead, the information we were told says says to, "take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world." Even the trailer says a, "dramatic new world," rather than Hoenn. What could this mean?
Even the Pokemon that adorn the two games' covers create a bit of mystery. They certainly appear strikingly similar to Groudon and Kyogre, but their color scheme's quite a bit different and, well, they're positively glowing. One could take a leap and say these are Mega versions of Groudon and Kyogre, but if that's so the transformation is rather underwhelming. It's more likely the two are simply shown powering up, perhaps for some world-changing event. Alpha and Omega... is this the apocalypse?
For now we'll have to settle with the titles, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, the box art, logos, and the knowledge that this isn't going to be just your typical updated versions of Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire. Whatever does Game Freak have in store for us?
