Electronic Arts has previously confirmed their E3 2014 press conference will be starting on June 9 at 12:00 PM PDT, but their plans for the event have been unclear. At least, they were unclear until today when EA held a financial earnings meeting that resulted in some surprise teases from the publisher. According to the publisher's release calendar, only one unannounced game is planned for 2014. The payoff, however, is that six games fro 2015 and beyond will be shown.
The big confirmation, however, is that Star Wars: Battlefront will absolutely be shown during E3. Odds are that's going to be one of the 2015 and beyond titles, but fans will be psyched to see that game in the flesh no matter its release window. A brief teaser shown during last year's E3 was one of the largest reveals of the event despite it revealing nothing but a title for the most part. That's probably not the only Star Wars game to be shown either.
One game that may or may not be shown is Need for Speed. If it is shown, we can now confirm it absolutely won't be for release in 2014 as Ghost Games has announced they're passing up the year. It'll mark the first time a Need for Speed title hasn't been launched since 2002. Maybe they've got something big planned for 2015? Need for Speed: Star Wars? I shouldn't joke about such potentially awesome things.
Who knows exactly what EA will pull out of their hat for E3 this year. The only speculation I can offer that's certain to be true is that everything will be next-gen focused. EA put a huge amount of effort into supporting the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at launch and as a result had a huge boost in earnings. It's event being said that their games account for 40% of next-gen game sales currently. Not bad, EA, not bad. Maybe EA will win E3 this year and not one of the big 3.
