I'm glad they're not because I only got a Wii U four months ago.

Really, it hasn't been that long since the Wii U and 3DS came out so I'm not surprised they aren't announcing a new system. Plus, I'm sure they wouldn't announce a new system without a press conference.

The Wii U would have sold well if they hadn't tried to piggy back on the Wii's success. People thought and still think the Wii U is just another useless Wii accessory. What they should have called it was the Ninten2.

"Of course that certainly doesn't discount the company from working on new hardware as we speak."

I would expect nothing less. I would also expect the same of MS and Sony. Just because they just put out their new hardware doesn't mean it's time to stop planning for the future. Now, I'm not saying I expect ANY of these companies to come out with new hardware anytime soon, just that I'm sure they must have someone working on some stage of their next hardware, even if just conceptualizing it.

Some idiots actually thought that Nintendo releasing a new console so soon was a great idea. Thank goodness Nintendo answered to these ridiculous rumors.

It won't be a "new console"
Instead they'll reveal a cheaper version of the WiiU without the gamepad!

Well of course they're not.
Everyone thinks the WiiU is a failure and Nintendo should move on. Let me make one thing perfectly clear - Nintendo has a ridiculous amount of money. Yes, this console hasn't sold as well as it could have, but they won't treat it any differently. They'll continue making fantastic games from everyone's favourite franchises, and they'll hopefully do a better job of marketing the next console. Not to mention, aborting the WiiU would be a giant middle finger to everyone that's bought one already.

Still is a failure though, PS4 & Xbox One destroying it's sales in a matter of weeks should show you that much. It was out a full year by the time Sony & Microsoft released their consoles.

Also by franchises you mean the Mario Universe right? Because that's all they're doing.

It wasn't just marketing that ruined this console it came down to a shitload of things.
  • Gamepad for a controller
  • Measly 20GB HDD
  • Stubborn ideals that pushed devs away
  • Stubborn ideal that pushed fans away*
*They underestimated the exposure they could have gotten from youtube which is a big deal these days by not letting anyone upload any gameplay at all and basically having videos removed so their video gets to be the first to show up in searches. It should go without saying that the price was too much as well, but Nintendo never sell at a loss. Should note that they've been selling the Wii U at a loss but pretty sure that's because of the gamepad.

Yeah they have money but if Iwata doesn't understand then they are very much on the Sega road. And going into the mobile market is not the solution, not even close.

All that said,

The WiiU is selling at a loss and I'm pretty sure the 3DS was sold at a loss once the major price cut happened.

I knew about the 3DS but they didn't sell at a loss until the price drop which I believe came like six months after release. Wii U selling at a loss is news to me. Yeah I'm sure the gamepad is why they sell at a loss.

I agree, let the Wii U have some time on the shelf first lol.

Not to mention it would put the final nail in the Wii U's coffin. Really silly for people to actually think they would announce a new console so soon.

Announcing a new(which let's be honest here because it is coming soon) console doesn't mean it is coming out next week which you guys are reacting as such. Let's calm down a bit. Plus the Wii U is a joke of a console and considering not many devs want to have ports of their games on it, I think ending this sooner rather than later gives them time to rebuild on lost ground with those devs.
