It's the art game for Nintendo 3DS that everyone has been fainting for. Introducing Pokemon Art Academy, a digital release that will be going on sale in Japan as soon as June 19 and likely to follow for the western world some time after that. As the name implies, and as the Art Academy franchise is known for, Pokemon Art Academy will provide small tutorials for aspiring artists to learn how to draw their favorite Pokemon. That's Chespin, right? Everyone wants to draw Chespin.
From what we can tell from the trailer, since we can't understand the Japanese voiceover, Pokemon Art Academy will provide the basic tools needed to create high quality fan art. Early lessons grow from simple tracing exercises to shape exercises, from bucket fills of color to shading exercises. Hopefully Pokemon Art Academy is just what aspiring artists need to take their fanart to the next level.
I'm not much of an aspiring artist, but even I couldn't say no to some guided exercises teaching me to draw some of my favorite Pokemon. The more of a game Nintendo turns it into, the more I'll be interested in trying out the full thing. Heck, just goofing around with the camera features and other randomness is good enough for me.
Expect more news on Pokemon Art Academy in the months ahead. The game will be launching on Japanes 3DS handhelds starting June 19, but hopefully we'll hear more about a western release going into E3.
