The announcement of Freedom Wars localization for the PS Vita was met with both excitement and hesitation. The story revolves around the main character fighting monsters to work off 8,000,000 years of prison time? Sure, Japanese narrative insanity is a selling point in its own right, but at least give us a frame of reference to judge said insanity. Well, ask and it shall be provided. Dimps dropped a story trailer today with English subtitles just for us.
Boy howdy is it zany. I mean, the 8,000,000 years is one thing, but they don't even broach that subject in today's trailer. There are strange dream girls bound in thorns to ponder over first. Then there's the impressive dedication to the true meaning of "Revolution" and "Freedom" which really just seems like complete nonsense. Oh man, this game is going to be all sorts of a weird drug trip, isn't it?
Craziness aside, it's great to see that Freedom Wars will feature a bit more in-depth story than some of the other Vita titles centered around fighting large monsters from recent months. Sure, non-linear storytelling is fine on occasion, but with these crazy, nonsense stories it's better to just be straight forward about it. I prefer my confusion to be presented quite directly, thank you very much.
Freedom Wars will be released on PS Vita in Japan starting June 26. Expect a North American or even worldwide release to follow in the months afterwards, localized by Sony.
