For any gamers wanting a closer look at the full Destiny experience, then there's nothing better than the latest gameplay trailer released today by developer Bungie. Featured in today's trailer is the "Devils' Lair" Strike mission, an Earth-based mission where players face off against The Fallen. A "Strike" is what Bungie is calling their cooperative missions in Destiny, so this Devils' Lair adventure will feature four players cooperatively trudging through the waves of enemies.
Unfortunately we have have to wait for a developer-led commentary trailer to get to the real depth of the video. Sure, Bungie does a great job of showing off a variety of weapons and powers in-game, as well as features like what happens when a players dies. Still, I'd like to know the mechanics of what's going on behind the scenes. Are the enemies dynamically spawned or will each map be the same when run? How does ammo work in Destiny? What kind of cooldowns can we expect on powers? Also, how do I get this game right now?
Destiny's strength, without question, is its visual design and depth. Every single scene in the trailer today looks hand crafted and beautiful. Unlike other multiplayer games, Bungie's level design seems a bit more "game-y", as in the maps are clearly designed for fun, intense combat scenarios as opposed to 100% realism. That's okay though, and actually it's more than okay. Bungie's level design is some of the best and its one of the reasons the Halo series was so well-received in the first place.
Expect Destiny's launch on September 9 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Don't hold your breath, PC players.
