Johann Sebastion Joust, Hokra, Super Pole Riders and BaraBariBall are four games that anyone throwing a party, big or small, should memorize right now. They are the four games included in Sportsfriends, four exceptional local multiplayer games that will have have gaming groups of friends rolling on the floor laughing, or perhaps just exhausted. Its now been revealed that Sportsfriends will be launching on May 6 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. With Nidhogg, Samurai Gunn and Towerfall: Ascension already available, the holy quartet of epic local multiplayer games is soon to be complete.
Sportsfriends was funded via Kickstarter, just barely bringing in the $150,000 goal in the last minutes of the campaign. It, in tandem with perhaps the outrageous success of Towerfall on OUYA, has proven that the once thought dying genre of local multiplayer games is still alive and has an audience. Hopefully Sportsfriends does well enough post-launch to justify these developers continuing to pursue the dream.
Pick up Sportsfriends and its four glorious local multiplayer games starting May 6 ($14.99), May 7 in Europe and Australia (€13.99). Available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, it should be noted that players who buy the PlayStation 3 version of the game will also received a code for the PlayStation 4 version. If anyone has both consoles then they should definitely take advantage of that deal.
Windows/Mac/Linux support for Sportsfriends should be come soon!
