Games ought to be fun and enjoyable and relaxing, not to be punishing trivial things for frustration like this game!! In terms of difficulty, even Ninja Gaiden & Contra won't do like that. No doubt it will deter sales for new comers.

Except it's the difficulty of the game itself that makes it fun. Before I even played Dark Souls I was utterly convinced I would never have fun with this game because of its difficulty. Boy was I was wrong.

Ninja Gaiden and Contra were substantially more difficult and did it on unfair terms because that was how you stretched out the four level game, and by extension, that's how you got the most quarters out of kids. Even Bed of Chaos, the "cheapest" thing in the previous game was barely at the level of a hawk enemy in the old Ninja Gaidens and it doesn't fly in from offscreen to push you off the stage. Dark Souls 2 doesn't have anything approaching Bed of Chaos in terms of an unfair or otherwise tedious boss mechanic.

What you're saying only says you've never touched the game and simply buy into the whole "it's the hardest thing ever" nonsense when that's just wrong.

Yes, I haven't touched the game yet, but still would like to try it on PS3 sooner rather than later....

The real difficulty for PC is actually using the KB + Mouse controls.

The only option on Dark Souls 1 if you have a PC is to hook up an XBox 360 controller. That's the way I see it.

The only way I play third person action in general is controller. Keyboard and mouse is always super awkward except in Witcher 2 which basically handled like an isometric game rather than an actual third person action title so I guess that doesn't count.

I think this game probably isn't for you then THM, this game is for people who accept the difficulty as a challenge and enjoy that experience. I know I loved DS1 because I had to be on my toes all the time when I came to new places.

The Souls series is a cakewalk compared to the Contra series.

You just have to run up to the enemy, wait for it to start it's attack, run like the wind when it does, watch it's pattern, repeat and attack when it's vulnerable.
Circling and/or kiting works on a lot of enemies too.

That said, I do find the Souls series to be needlessly anxiety inducing (no pausing)

How to play dark souls.
1) Lock On.

2) ROLL ROLL ROLL ROLL

3) Attack

4) Repeat rolling.

It's really not that difficult once you've mastered the art of the roll. And by art I mean you'll be rolling around more often than dice on a D&D game.

How to beat DS on PC?

1) Install Durantes fix
2) Roll.

Imo, the only problem with the "rolling" strategy is the fact that you get swarmed a lot. So getting a wide-range weapon is how things usually work out.

And, don't roll of an edge.

Ugh, yeah, a third of my deaths in Dark Souls are from rolling or stepping back off of ledges...
