This is all Anders' fault. Dragon Age: Inquisition's box art release yesterday teased a breach into The Fade, pouring unfriendly fellows onto the continent of Thedas. Today BioWare's said enough with the teasers and fully torn the veil. That is to say, BioWare has revealed an all new gameplay trailer for Dragon Age: Inquisition that, if it is indeed gameplay and not prerendered, in-engine cinematic, is extremely impressive visually. Oh, and here's a release date too: October 7.
Oddly enough, the trailer feels very much like something from Mass Effect 2 or Mass Effect 3. That is it say, there's a strong focus on how the protagonist fits into the setting and story of the game, as well as a lot of time spent introducing the assorted characters and party members that will be prevalent throughout the game. In the final shot in the trailer, a pan out to show the Inquisitor protagonist like Jesus at The Last Supper, I almost did a double take thinking it was Commander Shepard with his Normandy crew. There's no doubt in my mind now that Dragon Age: Inquisition will be attempting to capitalize on some of the successes of that latter Mass Effect games.
Our hero, the Inquisitor, has survived an excursion into The Fade. Survived a blast that has killed thousands. Somehow the Inquisitor is still alive (remind you of anyone?) and uniquely equipped to face an enemy of immense power, an enemy still shrouded in mystery. I think we can assume this Inquisitor fellow lives up to expectations and has a grand old adventure ahead of him.
Dragon Age: Inquisition will be released October 7 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Just watch this gameplay trailer and see why it may be one of the best releases of the fall season.
