Rejoice, Fatal Frame fans, for another installment is headed to Wii U. Tecmo Koei and Nintendo are confirmed to be working on the next Fatal Frame game, though they currently have no official title or release window to share. Actually, we don't know a whole lot beyond there being a new Fatal Frame on the way, based on what Japanese publication Famitsu has reported.
Apparently, Tecmo Koei is also expanding the franchise through other media, with a live-action movie and a novel on the way. I honestly haven't played a Fatal Frame game since Fatal Frame III on PlayStation 2, but seeing the series carried into the current game generation is nonetheless encouraging. Here's hoping Nintendo will bring the game to North America this time.
For those not quite in the loop, Fatal Frame is a survival horror franchise well-known for its unique gameplay mechanic, which involves using a camera to fight ghosts. The stories tend to be incredibly sad, too, because this is an Asian horror series we're talking about.
The latest chapter, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse for Wii, was released in 2008 never made it beyond Japan. In 2012, a remake of Fatal Frame II was released for Wii but only in Japan and Europe.
