With both the original PAX in Seattle and Boston's PAX East selling tickets out in a matter of minutes, the Penny Arcade organization was left with only one solution -- expand! Introducing PAX South, the third expansion of the Penny Arcade Expo after it first went east, then to Australia, and now will be residing in San Antonio Texas. This one's not too far away either, opening its doors January 23-25, 2015.
Just like its predecessors, PAX South will focus on providing attendees an event stuffed full of video games, table top games, panels, booths and all manner of nerdery. Hosting the event in Texas will allow for an entirely new audience of PAX attendees to experience the fun and community that the expo embodies.
The reality is, however, that perhaps the best or even only reason for the expansion is that Seattle and Boston simply can't hold the number of fans anymore. Penny Arcade President and business arch-daemon Robert Khoo made the following statement:
"Since its launch in 2004, PAX events have doubled in size almost every year, and our Seattle and Boston events represent the two largest gaming festivals in North America. We've been hearing for years that those in the south had a tough time making it to the northern corners of the country; PAX South has always been a matter of 'when' rather than 'if.' "
Announced in front of a packed audience at the ongoing PAX East event, I'm sure many flipped open their phones in order to reserve their PAX South tickets ASAP. No such luck just yet. Not ticket information for PAX South has yet to be announced, but stay tuned. The expo runners have a lot of business to take care of, alright? At least let them finish one con before moving to the next!
San Antonio, Texas, huh? Austin would probably have been a hipper choice, but San Antonio will be pretty cool. Hmm, so does this mean some sort of PAX North will be next? I'm betting on a PAX England.
