I consider it one of my greatest failures in life that I have yet to write about Kero Blaster yet on Neoseeker. It's the next title from Cave Story developer Pixel and it looks glorious. Today's my opportunity to do the right thing, because Pixel has released a prologue game, a short teaser title named Pink Hour. Consider Pink Hour an introduction to the heavily retro inspired look and feel that Kero Blaster embraces. In part, that means prepare to get messed up.
Pink Hour stars a little pink blob of a dude/lady that shoots... pink energy out to defeat his enemies. The, erm, blog, isn't the most mobile of protagonists, but it always has a smile on its face irregardless! Trust me, that pink blob has reason not to smile. See, in Pink Hour the little blob only has two hearts, three lives and zero continues to complete the game with. Considering all of the enemies, pits and challenging platforming, losing is an inevitability.
Keep in mind that Pink Hour's purpose, we can assume, is to prepare everyone for Kero Blaster. Kero Blaster, luckily, won't be so limited in scope. In fact, it looks to be heavily inspired by the gameplay of Cave Story. It just features a bit more retrograded style to it, which is saying something. I don't doubt Kero Blaster will impress in a way that Cave Story is equally impressive in its own unique way
Kero Blaster will be released May 11, which Pink Hour players will see plastered across the bottom of the screen the whole way through. Pink Hour is available for free right now, though anyone who wants to play will have to register for a free Playism account to download it. Do it!
