Gearbox and 2K Australia today announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, a standalone expansion pack of sorts for Borderlands 2. Sure, it's not exactly the Borderlands 3 so many people have no doubt been waiting for, but the Pre-Sequel should prove no less entertaining than anything we've seen so far. Oh, and welcome to outer space.
The new Borderlands installment gets its name from the game's timeline. The narrative takes place before Borderlands 2 but after the first Borderlands, making it both a prequel and sequel. This time around, space is a much bigger deal, since players will be spending most of their time on the moon. Hooray for zero gravity and getting around by jetpack!
Okay, I'll stop fussing over the outer space thing and just let this video do the explaining. Incidentally, the gameplay also shows that we'll be playing with a different cast.

Don't go into this expecting an entirely new game though. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel won't be running on a new engine with upgraded graphics or anything of the sort. It is, after all, for last-gen consoles -- and PC. Anyway, check out some early screenshots below.
