Sony Online Entertainment's got something sneaky in the works it seems, as President John Smedley has taken to Twitter to tease a quickly approaching game announcement. While he doesn't outright say the game's title, his tease coincides with the launch of a teaser site named "H1Z1" which sounds mightily like the name of a virus, doesn't it?
Sony Online Entertainment's President John Smedley teased an announcement via Twitter yesterday:
watch http://t.co/OfEekcv325 tmw between 5-6pm PST if you are interested in the new game we haven't announced. there is gameplay footage— John Smedley (@j_smedley) April 8, 2014
Which could imply just about any game, right? Except for the fact that a teaser site was also launched yeterday. A teaser site associated with the URL "H1Z1.com" and published (and trademarked) by Sony Online Entertainment. Expect more of that tomorrow and don't be surprised if the official title is indeed H1Z1.
What really is H1Z1? If the teaser site is anything to go by I'm guessing some sort of zombie MMO, what with the eerily lifeless town, no lights, full moon, and the screeching sound effects playing over top of it all. Who knows, Sony Online Entertainment might surprise me. Maybe it's about wearwolves, or man-eating fog, or aliens that turn out all the lights and make spooky sounds all night long. I'm putting my money on zombies.
Expect an update tomorrow after Sony Online Entertainment reveals H1Z1 and according to John Smedley expect to be playing the game "soon" as well. Closed beta tests already? I like your style, SOE.
