Namco Bandai saved the big surprises for the very end of today's Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct. A song of ice and fire filled our ears as both Charizard and Greninja were revealed as playable fighters in the upcoming games. Yes, big red and new blue are now the main stage Super Smash Bros. stars along with Pikachu and Lucario.
Both Charizard and Greninja were featured prominantly in both Pokemon X and Y as starters for the trainer. Well, their pre-evolved forms were starters in the two handheld games. Speaking of evolution, it was also confirmed today that Mega Evolution will be included in the game, likely for Pokemon Smash moves. In the trailer provided for the two new reveals, Mega Charizard from Pokemon X is shown in his grand black and blue form spittin' fire.
Super Smash Bros. is planned for release on Nintendo 3DS this summer, followed by the Wii U release in the winter later this year.
