The last Spider-Man movie trilogy died and there was a direct correlation between its death and the number of villains they forced into the movies. We've yet to see if history will repeat itself with the new Spider-Man movies, but we can basically confirm that the games don't care at all. Today Beenox released a villains trailer for their upcoming game The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It's a non-cannon game based on the movies. They titled the trailer the Kingpin reveal, but really there's at least half of a dozen scary looking faces who make an appearance.
Let's just get them all out there. We see Kingpin himself, Wilson Fisk, the big man with less of a neck and more of a tree trunk. He hasn't been and likely won't be in the films. They wouldn't be able to get an actor for him, right? Felicia Hardy, AKA Black Cat, played a part in the first video game but appears to be a full on villain now. Harry Osbourne, who I believe is the Green Goblin now, looks might ugly. Electro is in both movie and game it seems. Each of these characters seem to play prominent rolls in the game.
Then there are the teaser-y characters. First, and this one isn't a sneaky tease or anything, but we see Kraven strutting down the street looking rather well-groomed. Odds are he won't be in the movie and word is he's friendly in this game rather than a villain. We all know that will change down the line. Second, and this is the big teaser, is the appearance of Cletus Cassidy, also known as Carnage. We don't see him in full red parasite regalia, but we do see his arm breaking through a glass window with lines of red goo climbing over his skin.
Naturally my initial reaction to seeing Carnage is confusion, as we've yet to see Venom yet. You can't do Carnage without Venom! Then the gears in my brain click a few time. Oh, maybe Venom is in the new movie then? I guess we'll see, since there are already too many villains in this 90-120 minute film.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game is planned for release on April 29, a few days prior to the movie's launch on May 2. It's coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii U and 3DS.
