Gritty, dark strategy RPG Natural Doctrine has been confirmed for localization in North American and Europe, according to a report from IGN today. NIS America, western royalty in terms of Japanese localization, will be taking on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita project. They've certainly got their work cut out for them as Natural Doctrine will feature cross-platform multiplayer, a hefty system, that needs to be prepped for the game's fall 2014 release window.
Considering Kadokawa Shouten, the developer and publisher of Natural Doctrine in Japan, has never brought any of their own work to North America this could be a significant event. Should Natural Doctrine prove successful, it would either mean further partnerships between Kadokawa and NIS America or even Kadokawa starting a publishing outfit overseas. More niche video games, please!
NIS America has confirmed the localization of Natural Doctrine via Twitter, but hopefully they'll send out an official press release with English assets soon. Up until now, digging through Japanese screenshots and trailers, it has been difficult to tell just what sort of game Natural Doctrine is trying to be. Sure, we get that it's an SRPG in line with Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics ogre, but is it meant to be dark and dreary or full of adventure and action? Expect more soon.
