Apparently the developers of Mario Golf: World Tour have been playing New Super Mario Bros. U and have become supremely jealous of the platformers power-ups. Why do I say that? Because in the latest trailer for the 3DS golf game it appears that a whole slew of fancy power-ups will be available to players so they can land those hole-in-ones more easily. Or at least look cool triple-bogeying a par three.
It wouldn't be Mario Golf if it was just a plane old golf game, so it's great to see Nintendo doing something to make the title unique. What better way to do that than to use the power-ups that are prominent throughout the franchise's storied past. Let's take a look at what power-ups Nintendo shows in the trailer:
- Fire Flower Shot
- Music Block Shot
- Ice Shot
- Bullet Bill Shot
- Tornado Shot
I'm sure there are more technical names for each of the power-ups. They only truly show the icon for the Fire Flower, so it's difficult to tell exactly what the other ones are beyond the resulting animations in each shot. Personally, I'm a little disappointed there was no cat show power-up. The ball would turn into a cat and then the player would swing their club and... never mind. This has all gone terribly awry.
Mario Golf: World Tour is slated for launch on the Nintendo 3DS starting May 2. The Castle Club awaits!
