Just as teased, ArenaNet today detailed yet another feature being overhauled in Guild Wars 2 next month. Introducing the new Wardrobe! Consider it a new way to play around with weapon and armor skins, and with it, a rather improved dye system as well.
Come April 15, with the new Feature Pack, players will find all their skins and dyes consolidated to their account, rather than split by character. Like the currency wallet, which similarly combined most of the game's currencies into a convenient account-wide "wallet," the Wardrobe requires that you log into each toon in order to tally their various weapons and armor vanity skins.
The Wardrobe will also take into account skin progression. If you have something like a Legendary or Spinal Blade backpack, where the item had multiple appearances for each upgrade, each of those will be unlocked in the Wardrobe.
Don't worry about your Transmutation Stones and Crystals, either, because those will simply be converted to Transmutation Charges. These charges are required to apply new skins to your armor, ensuring that switching appearances still comes at a (modest) price.
As for dyes, all the dyes you've unlocked will be made available to every toon, thanks to the upcoming account-wide shift. To compensate players for duplicate dyes, ArenaNet will gift one unidentified die for each duplicate you have. Thanks to the new system, however, unindentified dyes will only be available via Mystic Forge and as in-game rewards for certain things.
Here, learn about all this crazy stuff straight from the devs.
April 15, please hurry along.
