The Ubisoft ship is leaking with new rumors surrounding the next Far Cry game. According to Eurogamer Far Cry 4 will be set in the Himalayas, home to Mount Everest and ranging in climate from tropical at its base to endless ice and snow at is peaks. To help carry the player around, the game will feature mountable elephants. Erm, not exactly the most exciting feature leak, but I suppose complaining won't change anything. Expect Far Cry 4 to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in the first half of 2015, though Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases have not yet been discounted.
As far as real game settings go, it really doesn't get any more perfect than the Himalayas for Far Cry. Not only does the area offer the same terrifying tropical wildlife found in Far Cry 3, but also a completely new environment just as terrifying and wild in the high peaks of the mountains. Imagine avalanches, crumbling ice cliffs and having to deal with extreme temperature changes. Not to mention standing at the peak of Everest and staring down at the world below. Just an idea, Ubisoft.
The other issue is of course one of platforms. The news that Far Cry 4 could also come to current gen consoles is a rather terrifying one, as it implies that certain technologies will have to be held in check or scaled back. Otherwise porting to older consoles simply wouldn't be possible. My hope is that Ubisoft focused on creating a true next-gen experience for Far Cry 4, letting it blow people away and not limiting itself unnecessarily.
Hopefully Ubisoft will have something official on Far Cry 4 in the weeks or months ahead, otherwise expect to hear more at E3.
