Ubisoft hates leaks, so instead of causing a stir about it they've gone ahead and confirmed Assassin's Creed Unity. Hooray for Ubisoft! Accompany the very short announcement, which seemed as much put together out of spite as anything else, is a short "sneak peek" video that Ubisoft says is made from alpha footage from the game. Welcome to Paris, where beneath the beautiful cathedral of Notre Dame we see the start of something new -- only for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC this holiday season.
It appears the leaked screenshots were accurate that Paris, France will indeed be the setting of at least one new Assassin's Creed game this year. Assassin's Creed has gone back to Europe, for better or worse. Ubisoft's PR put out this prepared statement to help frame Assassin Creed: Unity's reveal:
"We have been working on the new Assassin’s Creed for more than three years, and wanted to find the perfect time to give you an early taste of the game. Apparently though, the Templar Order was hungry to know more right now. To this, we say “Qu'ils mangent de la brioche!” (“Let them eat cake!”). Help yourself to a serving of the first official footage from the next-gen only Assassin’s Creed Unity. Stay tuned - we'll have many more exciting details for you in the future."
I suppose that just about wraps up everything to know about Assassin's Creed Unity, so let's ask the next question that just needs to be posed. What about the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and handhelds? To be frank, Ubisoft would be daft to forgo releasing an Assassin's Creed game on the still most highly populated platforms available -- folk can only migrate to next-gen so fast. While this speculative second game may or may not be Assassin's Creed: Comet, it's almost impossible to consider Ubisoft not having another game in the works. Heck, could they have three total? One for PS Vita too?
Expect more information of the deliciously French Assassin's Creed Unity in the months ahead. Personally, the lack of a roman numeral attached to the title is killing me. I simply can't wait for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC title to hit holiday 2014.
