When rumors started swirling that Obsidian Entertainment had a new title in development with plans to announce it at GDC, nerds started getting stir crazy. What could it be? Obsidian is known for awesome games like Neverwinter Nights 2, Knights of the Old Republic 2, Fallout: New Vegas and just recently South Park: The Stick of Truth. Well, the announcement came through; introducing tank MMO Armored Warfare. Hmm.
Clearly trying to capitalize on the huge reception that World of Tanks has received, Armored Warfare will also deliver a tactical online multiplayer tank experience. Players will battle their tanks in large maps with destructible environments and then after the battle is finished take care of maintenance, as well as upgrade their tanks with weapons and additional components. And of course, it's all "free-to-play" though its also been referred to as "free-to-compete" oddly enough.
Armored Warfare's closed beta is planned to launch later this year on PC, with no release window currently planned. Perhaps we're looking at another one of those fancy free-to-play extended closed betas where "launch" is really just a random points where the developers decide there's no reason to call it beta anymore.
