Flappy Bird, the mobile app that exploded into a worldwide addiction, isn't actually gone forever. Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen revealed as much when he recently responded on Twitter to a fan asking whether the app would return. Nguyen's response? Eventually.
Earlier this week, a Twitter user asked Nguyen if he ever planned to put Flappy Bird back on the App Store. The next day, Nguyen offered a short but clear answer: "Yes. But not soon."
Cue everyone on the Internet flipping the hell out.
@painfullpacman Yes. But not soon.— Dong Nguyen (@dongatory) March 19, 2014
The Flappy Bird app was originally released in May 2013 and won quite a following of diehard fans. The game featured simple yet addictive gameplay, requiring little more than the player's concentration.
Apparently, the game's popularity was enough to drive its developer a little insane, and he suddenly pulled Flappy Bird from mobile stores. Until the original sensation returns, though, you can probably find plenty of clones out there to mess around with.
