Following other PlayStation series Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us will be hitting the big screen soon. Fortunately, gamers won't have to sit through an animated movie for a grim tale; Sony studio Screen Gems will be creating a live-action retelling of the popular post-apocalyptic action/adventure game.
For the avid gamers and fans who worry about yet another video game masterpiece being ruined by the film world, don't. The script for The Last of Us will be written by the creative director of the series, Neil Druckmann, who we can only assume will capture the game's original vision. Co-president of Naughty Dog, Evan Wells, has been envisioning this project for quite some time, and has finally found the right studio to produce his dream.
“Our partnership with Sam Raimi, Ghost House Pictures, and Screen Gems to develop a film based on The Last of Us universe is a perfect fit. Since our game released last June, we’ve talked with many companies about making a film, but we couldn’t have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards. We look forward to collaborating with Sam, his team, and Screen Gems, to make a movie that will thrill fans of The Last of Us and general audiences worldwide.”
You'll be able to relive the survival story on the big screen soon. Until then, we're placing bets on who plays who, since no cast has been revealed. With such a strong creative team spearheading the project though, this is definitely something to look forward to.
