Sony Computer Entertainment America will have a new President and CEO starting April 1, 2014. The company released a statement today announcing that Jack Tretton will be leaving them after 19 years, after a mutual agreement between the two parties not to renew his contract, which expires at the end of the month. Sony Network Entertainment International Executive Vice President Shawn Layden will be stepping in to fill the big shoes.
Jack Tretton was a trailblazer for Sony and has been with them since the SCEA branch was founded in 1995. He was a driving force behind the PlayStation brand and helped the company achieve numerous industry milestones. Under Tretton's leadership, over 50 million PS2 units were sold in North America. More recently, the PS4 sold over one million units in North America in its first 24 hours. The PlayStation 4 has currently sold over 6 million units worldwide and Jack even gave up his own PS4 just so someone else could have one.
Layden is a former President for Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and was one of the founding members of SNEI back in 2010. Let's hope he continues pushing the PlayStation brand toward greatness.
