War of the Vikings is set to go into free for all mode April 15, Fatshark confirmed today during a live stream on Twitch. The close-quarters combat title is currently an early access title on Steam, and anyone who participates in early access won't have to pay for the retail version when it releases next month.
Fight to take Briton for your own as a powerful Norseman or repel the invaders and defend your homeland as a Saxon. Create your own Viking or Saxon avatar and play style, all the way down to the paint on your shield. After creating your profile, feel free to take it through the training grounds to make any tweaks necessary before unleashing your fury in fierce multiplayer action or in the arena.
The game is a new standalone entry to the War franchise, joining Fatshark's 2012 War of the Roses title. They could easily call it a prequel that takes place about 400 years before War of the Roses if they wanted to be historically accurate, but Fatshark insists there are no ties between the two War titles beyond the name and the underlying technology. Experience the Norse invasion starting April 15.
