The technical issues surrounding Battlefield 4 appear to be more or less a thing of the past thanks to last month's update. EA and DICE promised this past December that neither company would focus on new projects until the bugs were squashed. This also meant the delaying of all future DLC plans -- until now. DICE revealed the first bit of information for Battlefield 4's upcoming "Naval Strike" DLC. Naval Strike will be available for premium members later this month.
Naval Strike introduces a new hovercraft vehicle to the war in the South China Sea. After all, the new weapons that were teased aren't going to do you much good on a jet carrier thirty miles off shore. I think we can all agree it's more fun to be up close and personal unless you're a sniper.
Four multiplayer maps were also revealed:
- Lost Islands: Capture, loot, and plunder an untold number of fishing villages and blow up a passenger plane. Hopefully the opposing team's on it first.
- Wave Breaker: This one's for submarine lovers. If you're not one, you can still run on foot between shipping docks and use the new hovercraft vehicle to travel between islands.
- Nansha Strike: Just what Battlefield needs, more water! You'll learn to swim pretty quickly in this large, naval battle map. Otherwise, blowing up that hovercraft will be a free kill for your opponents.
- Operation Mortar: A cliff-side resort could make a great base of operations while you're waiting on your opponents to find their way through the scenery.
Battlefield 2142 fans will also enjoy the new Carrier Assault game mode. No details have been provided on it yet, but DICE promises that it will be like 2142's Titan mode.
Naval Strike will be released in late March for Battlefield 4 premium members. Two more expansion packs, "Dragon's Teeth" and "Final Stand" are planned for a summer 2014 release. Further details on Naval Strike as well as the latter two expansions will be shared as they become available.
