Minecraft is being made into a movie, no joke. News broker earlier today via a variety of sources including Mojang's Notch that Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to a Minecraft film. More than that, The Lego Movie's producer Roy Lee is already attached to the project and is already hard at work getting production started. Don't expect a CG film like Lego though, the WB's Minecraft will be strictly live action.
Notch, Mojang's big cheese, got word of the leaks earlier today and decided that just wasn't rightt:
Someone is trying leak the fact that we're working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft Movie. I wanted to be the leak!— Markus Persson (@notch) February 27, 2014
Word on the street, which I think means marketing buzz, is that several writers and other talent have already experessed interest in participating in the project. Basically, a lot of people see a lot of profit in a Minecraft movie and want a piece of the pie. Does it mean that this film will get made? Why don't we ask the Halo and World of Warcraft movies how they're doing?
Expect more information on the Minecraft movie in the days, months, or even years ahead. These things can become a reality on a day or two or fall off the face of the Earth just as suddenly. Sometimes digging for diamonds isn't a profitable as we'd hope.
Thanks for the tip, Huntereb!
