Team17, one of the most storied game developers in the industry, publisher, digital distributor and perennial Worms crushers, are doing something new. They're working on a new game based on a new IP, something that Team17 hasn't done in over a decade. Introducing Flockers, which according to Develop was revealed casually by Team17 during a PlayStation event today and which will be fully, officially announced next week.
Managing Director Debbie Beswick didn't offer much information on Flockers, but definitely wanted the gravity of the game's development to be clear:
"This is the most important game we've worked on in over a decade."
It's easy to understand why. Team17 has up until now developed over twenty different Worms games of impressive variety. They've also got dozens of other games under their belt, many of which are unique and with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, most of those more experimental games came from the studio's heyday backin the early-to-mid 90s. After a decade of leaning heavily on the Worms franchise, a new IP must be terrifying.
That said, if Team17 thinks Flockers is their next big thing, big enough to pass on another Worms for now, then color me interested. Expect more information next week.
