What if we ONLY registered our 3DS, but have yet to get the game (I want one) D:
The point is to have one of those games as well. So no, if you don't have any games, or not one of those games at least, you're out of luck.
Well I was planning on buying New Leaf :3 EDIT: Hey. Nintendo. What about us who have registered already? D:

Update: Just FYI, but it seems like you need to purchase the games BETWEEN March 1st and 31st, according to the FAQ. It mentions explicitly:

quote FAQ
Do I qualify if I registered the system or game before 3/1/14?

You are not eligible if you registered either product prior to 3/1/14. You must go through the registration process during this offer's time restriction.
So yeah, how nice of them ~_~ Seems like you actually need to register BOTH the a game and the system within this month. No free X/Y for me I guess. Even if it was just the game, I'm not really interested in getting any of those other games ATM (I already have MK7).

EDIT: Extra confirmation.

The Offer Page further confirms that you need to register both a qualifying game AND a 3DS/2DS within this month.

quote Offer Page
Register a portable Nintendo 2DS, 3DS, or 3DS XL system
and a qualifying game between March 1st to March 31st
and get a FREE Pokémon X or Pokémon Y download code.

...No, you do not need to do the purchasing during March. Purchasing a game/system is a completely different process than registering it on Club Nintendo.

Technically so, but most people register their systems/games when they get them, if at all. Basically, Nintendo is rewarding the lazy people who haven't bothered.

I didn't, and take offense to you calling me lazy. How did you get to category mod with an attitude like that?
Not everyone wants to use Club Nintendo. Personally, I don't care enough about any rewards I might get to bother with registering everything I buy. I've never used CN in my life, and won't use it anymore after this promotion.

Well, bully for you. Enjoy the free game and have fun taking everything so personally in future, why don't you?

Sign up on Club Nintendo, then Register a product. You'll find the Pin for the game inside your game case, and the serial number somewhere (on the back I think) of your 3DS/2DS. At least, I think in the case of the systems you have to input the serial numbers.

Not necessarily lazy. Nintendo's just trying to get more people into Club Nintendo and people love free stuff.

*sighs* This is what I get when I don't bother once in a while to add 'or *exception*' like I usually do.

you guys... its all a sham to get you to register your 3ds so they can figure out who has illegal content or illegally obtained games. thus for some of you who do have illegally obtained games willl then get your 3ds BANNED. think people think

Glad I saw this posting! I had a club account but have never used it so was able to register one of my 3ds xl's and mario kart 7 to get a free version of Y! Very happy to have Y now as well since I got X and my little brother got Y. Think I might have a 2nd game to get him a free copy of X so again thank you for sharing this!

You need both a 3DS and a game for each bonus code (IE: You can't register a single 3DS plus multiple games to get multiple codes).
