...No, you do not need to do the purchasing during March. Purchasing a game/system is a completely different process than registering it on Club Nintendo.
Technically so, but most people register their systems/games when they get them, if at all. Basically, Nintendo is rewarding the lazy people who haven't bothered.
hey im one of those lazy ppl
got my zelda3dsxl back in novemeber and it never even crossed my mind to register it until i saw the promotion. plus i planned on getting animal crossing this week so its a win win for me. so now i have pokemon x (physical version) and pokemon y (digital)

Glad I saw this posting! I had a club account but have never used it so was able to register one of my 3ds xl's and mario kart 7 to get a free version of Y! Very happy to have Y now as well since I got X and my little brother got Y. Think I might have a 2nd game to get him a free copy of X so again thank you for sharing this!
You need both a 3DS and a game for each bonus code (IE: You can't register a single 3DS plus multiple games to get multiple codes).
Yeah I kinda figured that but I have a reg blue 3ds, blue 3ds xl, and a blue x/y pokemon 3ds xl so I've got those 3 codes, and I've got the mario kart 7 which is how I got my game. Ive been wanting the yoshi or mario 3D land anyway so if I am able to buy one of them then I can get his game as well. Having 5 younger siblings is very helpful when it comes to wanting to upgrade your system since they just get my older one lol.

you guys... its all a sham to get you to register your 3ds so they can figure out who has illegal content or illegally obtained games. thus for some of you who do have illegally obtained games willl then get your 3ds BANNED. think people think

Not necessarily lazy. Nintendo's just trying to get more people into Club Nintendo and people love free stuff.
*sighs* This is what I get when I don't bother once in a while to add 'or *exception*' like I usually do.

How do you register a system and a game? I'm sure it has been mentioned..
Sign up on Club Nintendo, then Register a product. You'll find the Pin for the game inside your game case, and the serial number somewhere (on the back I think) of your 3DS/2DS. At least, I think in the case of the systems you have to input the serial numbers.

I didn't, and take offense to you calling me lazy. How'd you get to category mod with an attitude like that?
Not everyone wants to bother with Club Nintendo. Personally, I don't care enough about any rewards I might get to bother with registering everything I buy. I've never used CN in my life, and won't use it anymore after this promotion.
Well, bully for you. Enjoy the free game and have fun taking everything so personally in future, why don't you?
