We're running towards the end of the content shown in yesterday's Nintendo Direct event. Now we've moved onto Yoshi's New Island for the 3DS. While Nintendo President Satoru Iwata didn't have anything groundbreaking to announce, he did show off a new trailer and a new feature for the egg-throwing game. Introducing the Mega Eggdozer and the Metal Eggdozer, two huge eggs that will allow Yoshi to interact with the world in completely new ways.
These two humongous eggs, erm, well it's not really clear what all these eggs can do. Iwata seemed very excited about them, but didn't show or discuss much of their purpose. They can destroy some environmental obstacles, which can be see in the trailer provided. Otherwise, I suppose the non-metal eggs aren't as hearty as the metal ones? Why make two different types?
Nintendo's new trailer is actually quite informative on the other hand. We get to see a few new Yoshi power-ups that had previously not been shown. That includes the Yoshi-jackhammer, the Yoshi-submarine, the Yosh-fire-breath and one more than requires a bit of explanation. The Yoshi-wings are a buff that occurs when you start, erm, underperforming. Die a few too many times? Nintendo gives you free wings to fly you through the stage with ease. It's something they've been putting in Mario games recently and most gamers will never see it.
Yoshi's New Island will be released exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS on March 14. It's a throwback to that classic Yoshi's Island gameplay, with Mario's blood-curling baby cries and all.
