Here's the game that can save the Wii U, or at least have a good time trying. After disappearing from the spotlight since 2013's E3, Bayonetta 2 is back and as beautiful as ever. During yesterday's Nintendo Direct event a brand new Bayonetta 2 trailer was shown with all sorts of new gameplay and story teasers previously unseen. Lastly, Nintendo President Iwata was able to confirm that Bayonetta 2 was confirmed for a 2014 release. Thank all that is good (and evil, I suppose).
At first I was a bit bummed by the trailer, as it seems to introduce a young boy character and I absolutely can't stand those sorts of characters in video games. As the trailer progresses though it becomes clearer and clearer that this "kid" is much more than he seems. I'm hoping he's actually a 500-year old demon witch or something. The kid's even playable, it looks like. Ugh, I hope he doesn't ruin everything.
Also, it's great to see another Lumen Sage joining the fight. It would be a sad thing if they were all gone. I mean, just look at that fight scene where Bayonetta and the sage fight in the foreground and a huge demon and angel fight in the background. Absolutely stunning. I need to experience that on my HD TV. Twice.
Bayonetta 2 will launch exclusively one the Wii U in 2014. 2014! It may very well be Nintendo's leading release this holiday season, unless Super Smash Bros. gets pushed that far back too. It's good to see the dominatrix librarian back in the thick of things.
