Before we get to Mario Kart 8, let me just run an informal poll. How many people actually like the Koopalings? You know, those dumb mid-bosses that always had some unique power to them, but ultimate were defeated with three swift leaps to their head. Those annoying Koopalings that rarely offered any challenge. Yeah, no one likes them. Guess what? They're back, and they're now playable in Mario Kart 8. Garrrr!
Yes, everyone give a warm welcome to Iggy, Larry, Lemmy, Ludwig, Morton, Roy and Wendy. These are our new drivers in Mario Kart 8, joining Mario, Luigi and the gang and bringing the full driver roster to 24. That includes Baby Mario, Luigi and the princesses, plus the cute couples Toad and Todetta, and Wario and Waluigi. Oh! And don't forget Rosalina, because Mario Galaxy was a popular enough game to justify at least one new character.
Mario Kart 8 will launch exclusively for the Wii U and we can now confirm the release date is now in fact May 30. That makes it the next big exclusive for the Wii U after Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze launches later in February. Yar, a bit of a dry spell in March, April and May if you're not interested in smaller eShop releases. Without a doubt though, Mario Kart 8 will be a huge release.
