Lords of the Fallen is raising the hopes of diehard RPG fans, with a focus on tactical gameplay. Well, today City Interactive released the first gameplay trailer, presented by executive producer Tomasz Gop. In it, we see some early game footage, though it's all pre-alpha still.
Our protagonist, Harkyn, can be made into a Cleric, Rogue or Warrior. In the video, he's a rogue, and we see how City handles the whole rogue gameplay in an medieval fantasy RPG. Certainly not like you'd expect, given that Gop has stuck the hero with a shield and sword. After all, your chosen class doesn't really limit freedom in combat.
As Harkyn enters a monastery to investigate the goings-on there, he is attached by many enemies. We can see how strategy comes into play depending on your foe, where hacking and slashing aren't all that viable.

So that's pretty neat. You'll notice that despite being a Rogue, Harkyn isn't exactly leaping all over the walls with double daggers and leather armor. He remains the character that he's intended to be, which Gop mentions is actually tied to the combat.
Lords of the Fallen will be released later this year for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. A previously-released cinematic trailer teased a little bit of the story, and gives a little more meaning to the title.
