Activision Blizzard has an idea how big franchises need to be if they want to be big in a next-gen gaming world, as the publisher believes the Bungie-developed shooter Destiny just might become nothing less than its next billion dollar franchise. That would put Destiny alongside Activision's other billion dollar brands: Skylanders and (you guessed it) Call of Duty.
In an investor call following the company's financial results, CEO Bobby Kotick paints Destiny as the "biggest new IP" in Activision's history. In fact, Kotick is confident Destiny will become the "best selling new video game IP in history." Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg meanwhile sees Destiny as an opportunity to build a "10-year franchise" with Bungie.
Activision is definitely placing a lot of faith in Bungie's ability to deliver a killer title later this September. It doesn't hurt that Destiny will be multiplatform across Sony and Microsoft platforms including the PS4 and Xbox One, giving the title the chance to reach a wider base of users.
