Capcom's reboot of Strider (made by Double Helix Games) has had its release date sneak up on us. Today the publisher announced that Strider is in fact less than two weeks away, launching February 18 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, followed by Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC launches on February 19. The game itself will retail for $14.99 / €14.99 / £11.99 and only be available as a digital download. That's not all, as Capcom also announced some additional content included with Strider.
On top of the standard story mode that gamers will expect, Capcom's revealed that Strider will include two other ways to play:
- Beacon Run: "... offers a “speed run” race style mode that gives players a white-knuckled experience, challenging them to hit consecutive checkpoints while slicing through enemies, in the shortest amount of time."
- Survival Mode: "... tests player’s combat skills with a variety of different item and ability load outs, as waves of progressively difficult and diverse enemies converge on Strider Hiryu."
Both of the newly announced challenge modes will feature global leaderboards for players to compare their results against others. Yes, speed runners will be able to compare their runs against each other in-game. Props to Capcom for adding that, considering the growing game speed-running community that's certain to devour Strider.
Pick up Strider for PS4 and PS3 on February 18, or on Xbox One, Xbox 360 or PC starting February 19. It'll run a low cost of $14.99 which is certainly a grand price for retro gamers who recall the classic Strider fondly. Hopefully this is the start of a trend at Capcom to support some of their dust-gathering IP, even if that means licensing it out to smaller developers with big aspirations.
