It appears Disney's woes with regards to video game development have yet to end as it appears Disney Interactive Media is on the verge of another round of layoffs. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal hundreds are likely to lose their jobs as Disney's Playdom gaming platform continues to struggle. Disney Interactive President Jimmy Pitaro plans on reorganizing the 3000 employee group, including several key executive shufflings.
The disappointing news comes despite Disney Infinity's success. In fact, when Disney Infinity launched last year it gave Disney Interactive just its second profitable quarter since the group was formed. Unfortunately it appears that Disney Interactive's other ventures, largely online and social, continue to push the company in the opposite direction.
We at Neoseeker wish all those affected by today's layoffs a speedy turnaround. Hopefully everyone will be back and working on a project they're passionate about before they even realize it. Layoffs are a disappointing certainty in an industry as volatile as ours is, but the sense of comradery and community can hopefully make the sting less impactful.
