HB Studios are making their step towards a bigger presence in the sports game arena by announcing The Golf Club for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Better known as the developer of the Wii and Vita port developers of Madden, HB Studios may have stumbled onto a home run here. With EA's golf franchise in a rut for the time being, it's the perfect time for another developer to step in and take over.
It helps that The Golf Club actually looks very solid. While it's difficult to judge in the controls department, always a huge deal in golf games, The Golf Club definitely delivers in the visuals department. With big, scenic courses with lots of foliage and well, dat grass, HB is well on their way to a solid release. Plus, there's their announcement of a system in the game that procedurally generated courses for you to play, or help you create courses on your own.
Bring on The Golf Club, I say! A new generation of golf games distanced from the Tiger Woods name, I say! Bring on procedurally generated golf courses with tons of hazards that frustrate players endlessly, I say! Now if only it had a Sim component to its gameplay... Seriously though, check out the course generation trailer before. It looks outstanding. Especially when he drops the green in the middle of the lake.
Expect The Golf Club to be released on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in spring of 2014.
