When it comes to unit sales, Nintendo doesn't have any trouble sharing figures for the 3DS platform especially given the handheld continues to set new milestones for the console giant. Today Nintendo confirms that the combined physical and eShop 3DS software sales hit 16 million units during 2013, a 45 percent year-on-year increase over sales from 2012.
Meanwhile 3DS hardware sales hit 11.5 million units in the U.S. alone; this figure encompases 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS sales throughout the past year.
This all adds up to Nintendo's continued confidence in the 3DS platform's ability to deliver in the coming year. Indeed, Nintendo of America's executive VP of Sales & Marketing Scott Moffitt maintains the 3DS is a "powerhouse" and boasts that "the best days of Nintendo 3DS are still to come."
Conveniently this was also Nintendo's opportunity to confirm a March 14th release date for Yoshi's New Island. What other 3DS titles are you looking forward to this year?
